Nikolai Petrakov is a well-known economist in the country and abroad. His scopes of scientific interests are the economic-mathematical modelling, the theory and methods of the economic policy realization in the conditions of market management.

He has made a speet contribution into the working out of the basis of the market system of the economy functioning; into the theory of measurment of the expenses and results in the national economy.

During the recent years he has achieved important results in the sphere of the organization of the transitional processes to the market system of national economy management. These results made it possible to describe adequately the real economic processes. They contain fundamental theoretical and methodological conclusions about the ways of the economic reform development in Russia. He is one of the initiators and authors of the theory and applied aspects of price formation as well as financially and materially balanced economy of the transitional period.

N.J. Petrakov is the author of more than 200 scientific publications, including 9 monographies. He is an active participant in the processes of personell training. He has performed an important pedogogical work during more than 20 years. He is the member of the editorial board of the "Economico-Mathematical methods" journal and the "Economic problems" journal.
