A.M. Influence of Spatial Competition on Firm Location (on
Siberian Cities' Example). //
Economics of
contemporary Russia 2012.

(57) Ñ.60-75.
In the
article the influence of spatial competition on a b2c-firm location in
the
Siberian cities is estimated. It builds regression equations for the
dependence
of density of stores, pharmacies, and gasoline stations on the
population
density in a city of interest. It is found out that firms want to
locate far
from their
competitors, but there is no dependence between the price level and
firm density. This statement means that simple theoretical models of
spatial
competition
are not adequate here, whereas more complicated models with
integrated market, firm differentiation, product differentiation,
Cournot
competition, etc. are
more suitable.
Key
words: spatial competition, firm location, differentiation,
cities.
