The article deals with the memoirs
of Ivan Petrovich Shabunin. All his life has been connected with Volgograd
region. In 1958 he graduated from the Agriculture Institute and with time
became a noted administrator, First Deputy-head of Oblispolkom, supervising
the region agriculture. In 1990 he was appointed Chairman of Oblispolkom
and then Head of Administration of Volgograd region. This post he occupied
till 1996. In the period from 1990 to 1993 he was a deputy of the Supreme
Soviet of Russian Federation, from 1993 to 1996 a member of the Federation
Council of the Parliament. In the period from 1997 to 2000 he worked as
First Deputy of the Executive Secretary of CIS. Since 2000 Ivan Petrovich
has been at the head of a public fund «Gubernia».
Shabunin's wide practical experience and his outstanding personality
have made his memoirs an invaluable evidence of the history of economic
development in Russia. Of great interest are his view on the prospects
of agriculture development in Volgograd region.
