Guriev S. Barter
in the Russian Companies – alternative reasons and empirical results.
The Author discusses the alternative macroeconomic
and microeconomic reasons of the wide-spread barter transactions in the
Russian economy in the end of 1990s. Methods of alternative theories’ testing
is considered. The Russian and foreign scholars’ empirical results are
compared. Special attention is given to dramatic reduction of barter transactions
in the post-crisis period (August 1998), as well as the research problems
still to be solved.
